About
Dave was born in Mesa, AZ, and raised in the Phoenix Valley. After graduating high school at Marcos de Niza in 1983, he joined the Air Force, where he spent six years serving America. He was stationed in Las Vegas during those six years, where he arrived in 1983.
Dave’s six years in the Air Force were spent in Las Vegas, including four years on the Nevada Test and Training Range. He served in a classified assignment and held a Top-Secret security clearance, providing operational security for the F-117A Stealth Fighter. During his time in the military, he attended UNLV to study business administration.
While in the Air Force, he met Aylin Garcia, his wife of 35 years. She was born in Havana, Cuba, raised in Las Vegas, and is a Bishop Gorman High School graduate. Dave and Aylin married in 1986, and they had their first child, David, in 1988. After Dave left the Air Force, they moved back to Phoenix and continued growing their family by having another son and two beautiful daughters. Dave also completed his college education, receiving a BS and BA in Business.
In 1992, Dave’s first-born son, David, turned four, and Dave began volunteering as a coach for his son’s t-ball team. As their kids grew, Dave continued coaching and spent the next 26 years as a volunteer football coach, including over ten years at the high school level. Dave’s tenure as a high school football coach included coaching at Gorman, Arbor View, and Mohave high schools. His focus on the field was to use football to mentor young men and help them find their way to college and continue their playing careers. Dave believed then and believes now that there are few more important things anyone can do than to help young adults find their path to success.
As their family grew and opportunities presented themselves, Dave moved his family of six back to Las Vegas in 2001, where Dave and Aylin began their career in real estate. Dave continued his work with kids and young adults. As Dave’s career in real estate grew in 2005, he opened his brokerage and has continued to operate his brokerage ever since.
Dave and Aylin’s love of kids did not extend to just their four or mentoring kids on a football field. Instead, they became the legal guardian of two brothers and another young man Dave coached who needed a home. At one point, they had nine children living in their home and, over the years, have had seven children beyond their own living with them. Now, Dave wants to work to ensure that everyone in Nevada has access to a great quality, in-state college education because everyone deserves a fair chance at succeeding in life. This is why he’s running for Regent because he can make a difference in this great state, he calls home.
